TRC: Registration Open for Abbreviated Swim Team Season

Hello Tuckahoe Swim Team Families;

We are excited to finally share some details with you about our 2020 Tuckahoe swim team season. Though the season will be abbreviated, we are eager to come together to swim and to partake in some of our wonderful summer traditions!

In anticipation of the Virginia Phase 2 reopening guidelines going into place in a little over a week, we ask that everyone interested in joining the swim team this summer to please registers by Thursday, June 11th. Please keep in mind that registration is not for the little tiger program; that will resume until next year. Also, note that if you are new to the swim team you will have to set-up an account. Anyone who has previous swam on the team should be able to proceed as usual.

We hope to have the green light by 6/15 to start having practices and we hope to have some type of competition with other teams later in the summer (what that will look like we are not sure of yet). The coaches and reps are working with pool management to figure out a lot of details that have never really been considered until this extraordinary moment - simply, we do not have all the answers and will need to make adjustments as we go to guarantee the health and safety of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and families. In order to effectively continue planning, we need to know what our numbers look like.

Phase 2 will allow us up to 3 swimmers per lane while maintaining 10ft of distance between swimmers. We plan to have practice from 7 am - 11 am by age group. In the past the swim team has been as big as 300+ athletes - with 3 athletes per lane and 8 lanes for 4 hours, the most kids we could get in the pool is 96/day.

We will create a rotation system to provide an equitable amount of practice time and coaching for all of our athletes that are interested in being a part of the team. The first week we will need to start slowly and figure out how this works. On day 1, we will conduct swim tests to ensure all athletes 10-under can swim 50 meters unassisted - we will be sending out details for how we will run swim tests closer to our start.

Our goal is to give our kids and families as much of the team experience we have grown used to in the past. We will provide top-notch training and stroke development through regular workouts. We are working with the other D1 teams to create opportunities to see the results of our improvement through competition. More than anything, we want to give our kids a sense of belonging and support that is so unique to being a part of the Tuckahoe swim team.

The cost to register will be $60 which will cover the 6 weeks of our abbreviated swim team season. The $60 is a flat rate that comes down to $10.00 per week with the season starting on 6/15 and going until Aug 1.

Most importantly we ask for your patience and flexibility - we are going to keep learning and continue to make this experience better as we go. We anticipate having to make changes for unforeseen reasons but we will be communicating regularly to keep everyone in the loop.

Go Tuckahoe (Clap)!

Christina
