Northern Virginia Swimming League

The Northern Virginia Swimming League was founded in 1956 to sponsor competitive swimming and diving in and among the community swimming pools in the area of Northern Virginia contiguous to the District of Columbia, and to develop in the children participating in this program a love for the sport, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship.

  • With 102 teams and nearly 17,000 swimmers aged 5-18, the NVSL is the largest summer swim league in the United States.
  • The league started in 1956 with eight to 11 founding member pools, many of which are still active today, including Tuckahoe!
  • Division 1 is highly competitive, and Tuckahoe has won 4 out of the 5 titles in the post-COVID era.

  • Saturday Dual Meets: A typical dual meet pits two teams against each other, with three swimmers from each team competing in 52 events across all four strokes and various relays.

  • Monday Meets: The developmental meets are more flexible in form, when the coaches evaluate all the upcoming athletes that are seeking a spot on a Dual meet. These meets are also a great opportunity for swimmers to experiment with some of their less favorable strokes.

  • Iconic Traditions: The season features high-energy All-Star Relay Carnivals and concludes with the Individual All-Star meets, crowning the fastest swimmers across all divisions.
